Day One

EXIT – An Alternative to the Corporates with Dr Paul Hogg

Meneage Dental, in Helston, Cornwall, was established over 30 years ago. Of this, Paul has enjoyed being part of Meneage for 20 years, spending the last 15 of these as a partner/director. Whilst planning the next strategic move for the practice Paul realised that the next decade of his career should actually include a plan to sell the practice. The sale of such a longstanding dental practice in a close-knit community raised many questions.

The first and most obvious options for sale are either a private sale or to sell to a corporate; neither of which sat well. Then, during a discussion with his accountant (Mike @ Peloton), the option of creating an Employee Owned Trust was raised.

After a more in-depth look at this option Paul felt it gave the win/win/win solution, for the owners, the team and the patients.

Paul will now take you through the process he has undergone over the last year, the outcomes, trials and tribulations. Most importantly a real time update on how this process is going to date, and the learnings the practice have taken.

Ortho cases – pre submit your cases for specialist help and advice.

Medical Imagining Start-Up Through to Exit… and Dentistry? with Professor Philippe Young

Philippe Young is a Professor of Biomechanics at The University of Exeter. He was the founder of Simpleware Ltd, a spin out company at the interface between medical imaging and physics based simulations, acquired in 2016 by Synopsys inc. Since 2021, Philippe has been leading the development of new Digital Orthodontic Solutions at Vitaware Ltd. Philippe will present new research into orthodontic software solutions allowing Dental Professionals to provide orthodontic treatment within the practice. The treatment planning can be carried out chairside, without the need to outsource, and will enable the dentist to assess and adjust treatment outcomes as well as allow the patient to provide interactive feedback on treatment (aesthetics, treatment duration….)

Take Back Control of Your Aligners A New Solution with Matt Howard

Evening – Graduation Dinner

Day Two

The Carbon Almanac and Sustainability in Dentistry with Rob Slater (Specialist Orthodontist)

Plastic in Dentistry

I will discuss how sustainability became a bigger issue for me and how things have changed in our practice. I will update on the position that some companies take and how Greenwashing can sometimes be a barrier to making systemic change. I will talk about different types of plastic and how it becomes a part of many of the dental materials that we use both at work and at home. I will give some thoughts and what changes can be made but that change relies on public support as well as the Dental Industry.

A Brief History of Beauty

A discussion about what beauty is and how our perceptions of it have changed over time. I will discuss how society can influence individual perception.

While we use norms, averages and ideals, there is the potential for these to change, sometimes within a single generation.

How Not To Build a Private Ortho, Facial Aesthetics and Teaching Centre with Andrew McGregor (Specialist Orthodontist)
